Application Process of University of Cambridge

The application process starts earlier at Cambridge to allow time for interviews. Students UCAS application should be submitted by the prescribed date. Nevertheless, the process is otherwise the same as that for other universities. Cambridge aims at offering admission to students of the most intellectual potential regardless of racial, social, financial, religious considerations. UCAS Application

Applications to UCAS are available online using 'Apply' the web-based application package. Students may seek advice from their school or college about the process and must have copies of all the materials they shall require. If students have left college or school or are a resident abroad, then they must contact UCAS for more information. The UCAS address is given below.

When students have submitted their UCAS application, then they can check on its progress online through UCAS track. Students shall need to submit another application form in addition to their UCAS application if they are:

  • Living outside the EU
  • Applying for the Graduate Course in Medicine
  • Also applying for an Organ Scholarship or a Choral Award
  • Eligible candidate to be considered under Cambridge Special Access Scheme

When UCAS application is received by the concerned department at Cambridge, it will be back knowledge by the college you applied to. Open applications will be allocated to the colleges shortly after the last date of submission. The department is aware that students can nominate an individual to their behalf when concerning with matters associated with their UCAS application.

It must be noted that the University of Cambridge will not automatically communicate with this person. If students wish to nominate someone to act on their behalf, then they are advised to contact the college to which the have applied or have been allocated to discuss their particular circumstances.

Cambridge Special Access Scheme (for EU and UK students)

The university is aware that some candidates may not be predicted the high grades needed, however, they have the motivation and potential to successfully follow a course. The Cambridge Special Access Scheme is designed with the intention of ensuring applicants who have experienced particular personal, educational or social disadvantage can be accurately evaluated.

Colleges/schools are asked to provide additional information and complete reference about an applicant. This allows applicants to be evaluated more appropriate and fairly levels for conditional offers set. Every college supports the CSAS. Students are eligible for the scheme if any of the following apply:

  • Students' education has been considerably disadvantaged or disrupted through personal or health problems, difficulties with schooling or disability.
  • Few people from their college/school proceed to higher education and their family has little or no background of studying for a degree.

In order to be considered under the scheme, students must apply in the normal way, however, their reference must also complete the additional special access scheme form. Applicants may download the scheme form from the university's website. The form should be filled in appropriately and to be submitted before or on the prescribed date to the college where students applying or to the Cambridge Admission Office in case they are making an open application.

The CSAS is one of the ways that Cambridge is expanding participation. Students may contact the college admission office or Widening Participation Team for more information about these activities. They may advise students' school or college on their eligibility for the scheme and may provide further information and the CSAS form.
