Sport at the University of Cambridge

Cambridge has a huge sports scene. Students get exposure to improve health and wellbeing, become a coach, try a new activity, and match sport and office volunteer. There is a wide range of activities to encourage students to achieve their goals with every sport they can think of. Students participate in a team games, martial arts, water sports, racket sports and many other sports.

The Cambridge students have an extensive choice of sports for health, fun and serious competition. The university has many club taster sessions at the beginning of the year for newcomers to search out a bit more. There are many college teams in a varied range of sports offering opportunities for beginners and experts to participate in cup competitions and inter-college leagues.

Students are provided support in all activities with the purpose of enhancing their sport abilities. Students are also equipped with other facilities for all traditional team games and other sports such as rowing and tennis. Some of them have their own gym and provide indoor facilities for badminton and squash. Additionally, the university has the UK athletics grade first athletic track, Fenner's Cricket and Tennis ground, a floodlit sand-based synthetic hockey surface, a fitness suite and the indoor cricket school.

The university has a fitness suite. The fitness houses 50,000 worth of the newest cardiovascular equipment complete with iPod and Freeview TV connectivity. There are various sports centres, swimming pools and gyms around the town where students get membership discount. Students are provided with some financial support to play competitive sport at a high level or who wish to progress within officiating or coaching and through the colleges.
