The purpose-built faculty, a roomy modern building completed in the late 1970s. The building is centre for the musical activities of the university. The building provides the location for many faculty research activities and lectures. It is also a fine platform for various long-established performing societies comprising chamber orchestra, the Cambridge university musical society, opera society, the Cambridge Handel opera group, Cambridge university new music ensemble and Cambridge university collegium museum.
The faculty has the Pendlebury Library of Music. The library has an extensive array of books, music, recordings and periodicals. The university has a Concert Hall, lecture rooms, recital room and other practice and teaching rooms. Students are equipped with various facilities in order to enhance their knowledge and skills. The site also has the Centre for Music and Science, which comprises computer teaching and research space and a purpose-built recording studio. The faculty hosts the AHRC Research Centre for Musical Performance as Creative Practice. The faculty brings together practical music making and academic study.
The faculty also has a rich array of early keyboards. Lately, the faculty established an orchestra of Baroque instruments. All these facilities are available to students and may be loaned out. Additionally, there are significant faculty funds to offer supports for practical music-making and awards for students who write on musical subjects and also grants for travel overseas.
The Endellion String Quartet resides at the university and holds a spectrum of master classes and concerts each year. The Academy of Ancient Music and Britten Sinfonia are orchestras in residence. The course in music ensures that students learn all aspects of the course. They should be able to perform up to the mark. Students are expected to utilize all facilities provided by the university.
