The Degree of Doctor of Philosophy will be awarded by Osmania University in the faculties of:
- Social Sciences
- Oriental Languages
A candidate must possess a Master's Degree in the concerned subject or in related subject except Engineering, Science, Informatics and Technology in all faculties is eligible for admission to PhD programme. Candidates must have obtained at least 55 % marks in aggregate. However, candidate who falls under reserved category such as SC/ST needs to obtain at least 50 % marks in aggregate.
Candidates who posses M.Phil Degree in the allied subject or in related subject which is approved by Osmania University is eligible to apply. Or
Candidates who have qualified UGC-CSIR/NET GATE exam or SLET exam of Govt. of Andhra Pradesh or awarded a Research Fellowship by CSIR/UGC Government Organization. Or
A candidate who has published as the first author, minimum two research papers in the board area of research in standard journals which is recognized by the university.
Registration for PhD
Every year the university issues a notification inviting applications from candidates for the programme of PhD. Nonetheless, additional notification shall be issued by the respective Dean for the candidates who have qualified UGC/NET/CSIR/M.Phil with research fellowship.
Eligible candidates need to choose a topic of research in discussion with a Research Supervisor, who is recognized by Osmania University in the approval to supervise the research work.
Joint Supervision is allowed in interdisciplinary areas of research provided that the both supervisors are from the different subjects. In such cases, the candidates need to attain the written permission of the two supervisors. If candidates have to register with a supervisor working in recognized research center who is not from Osmania University, then the joint-supervisor may be from the same subject or related subject but must be working as a faculty in Osmania University.
Candidates need to submit the application for registration along with the request fee and required documents. Candidates also require to enclose the synopsis of proposed research work which is approved by the supervisor must be submitted to the Dean of the concerned faculty on or before the prescribed date.
