Punjab University Law has established placement-cum-counseling cell with the intention of providing career opportunities to its students. The objective of this cell is to put emphasis on a variety of programme to be held in the university to give more and more career opportunities to students.
One of the few responsibilities of this cell is to produce lawyers with sense of social responsibility and awareness. To achieve this responsibility, the cell organizes activities such as working on real client problems, simulation exercises, legislative drafting, law reform exercise, etc. The soul objective of placement cell is to make available career counseling and guidance concerning various academics and placements.
The department of law organizes various seminars on legal matter. Moot court programme is to be arranged in order to sharpen students' professional skills which are very essential on the job. Since advocacy is all about debating and arguing, moot court competition facilitates students to perform well in their respective profession. The law school also emphasizes that students should follow morals and ethics in their profession.
Furthermore, the department also organizes a wide range of activities which are: Clinical training, divulge knowledge from outside the conventional legal areas for better delivery of legal services by means of holding debates and discussion with legal connoisseurs and judges. There is an array of subjects which are compulsory as well as optional. These subjects comprise all said objectives. The prescribed subjects are updated from time to time depending upon the changing need and requirement of society.
The department of law also organizes moot court competition every year. This year a moot court called, 'Dip Chand Memorial National Moot Court Competition was held in the college. It got a very good response. There were four semi-finalist teams including Government Law College Mumbai, National Law University, Jodhpur, Delhi University and Army Institute of Law, Mohali. The objective of moot court competition is to enhance basic law skills of students. The competition gives an opportunity to students to perform in front of larger audiences. This moot court competition has been won by National Law University, Jodhpur and the best memorial award was won by Army Institute of Law, Mohali.
