Paper-I

ii) Mathematics

Algebra: Quadratic equations and their solutions, integers, ratio and proportions, irrational and rational numbers, polynomials, linear equations in one variable, GCD and LCM of polynomials by factorization method, law of indices, solution of simultaneous equations.

Trigonometry: Use of trigonometric tables, trigonometric ratio-sin x, tan x, cos x, cot x, cosec x, simple problems on distances and heights.

Mensuration: Square, sphere and cone, perimeter and area of a triangle, rectangle, trapezium, rhombus, circle and quadrilateral. Surface area and volume of cube, right prism, cylinder.

Geometry: Triangle, triangle angles and sides, congruence of triangles, circle, sector and arc of a circle, tangent to a circle, transverse and direct common tangents, similarity of triangles, Pythagoras theorem and its converse, centroid and orthocenter, circumference and diameter of a circle, segment and chord of a circle, family of concentric circles.

Statistics: Bar diagram, pie-charts, histograms, collection and tabulation of statistical data, measure of central tendency (median, mean and mode), graphical representation of statistical data.

Paper-II

i) Physics

Motion: Acceleration, uniform and non-uniform motion, equation of motion, displacement, velocity and speed.

Force: Relation between acceleration, force and mass of an object, balanced and unbalanced forces, definition, action and reaction of forces, inertia of a body, acceleration.

Gravitation: Acceleration due to gravity and laws of gravitation

Work: Relation between energy and work, work done by force, potential energy and kinetic energy.

Wave Motion: Amplitude of wave, velocity and frequency of wave, nature of wave, type of wave, transverse, relationship between wave length, propagation of a wave through a medium, longitudinal, simple harmonic motion.

Light: Focal length of eye-lens, perception of colour-composition of white-light, perception of energy carried by light waves, image formation on the retina, human eye structure and function of human eye.

Heat: Specific heat, change of state, idea about relative humidity, thermal expansion, idea of latent heat, heat and mechanical work, measurement of temperature, temperature and heat.

Electricity: Resistance and time of flow of current, measurement of electric energy, electric appliances based on heating effect of current, units of electric power and energy, conductors and resistors, potential difference and resistance, quantitative relationship between heat, measurement of current, current, heating effect of electric current.

Magnetic Effect of Electric Current: Coil and solenoid, electromagnetic induction, magnetic field of a current carrying conductor, electric motor and its applications.

ii) Chemistry

Matter-Nature and Behaviour: Structure of atom-electrons, composition of nucleus-atomic number and mass number, valence electrons and valency, protons and neutrons, distribution of electrons in different energy levels in an atom, nature and behaviour of different types of substances, molecules and atom, compounds and their mixtures, atomic theory, elements, structure of matter.

Atomic Mass and Molecular Mass: percentage composition of compounds, mole concepts

Physical and Chemical Changes: Endothermic and exothermic reactions, combination, decomposition, fast, slow, displacement, chemical equations, catalyst.

Electrochemical Cell: Electrolysis-movement of ions during electrolysis, construction and working of a simple voltaic cell, Faraday’s laws, electroplating, lead storage battery and dry cell.

Classification of Elements: General trend in properties of elements in periodic table, periodic law, periods and groups.

Fuel: Heat produced during combustion, natural fuels, type of fuels, combustion of food in living organisms, coal.

Mineral Cycles: Water: origin of life in it, a solvent, sea water as habitat of organism, water a natural resource, a medium for the activity of the living, uses, saturated and unsaturated solution, salt from sea, carbon cycle, nitrogen cycle, oxygen cycle, water cycle, role of carbon and its compounds, nitrogen fixation, oxidation process, role of energy in different cycles.

Air: Fuels and automobiles, damage of historical monuments from acidic gases, asbestos, on living organisms, air pollution and its effects on human beings, corrosion of metals, effect of metallic particles, etc, carbon monoxide and its ill effects, composition, carbon dioxide and its diverse effects on living organism, release of carbon dioxide from fossils, atmosphere and its role on radiation, role of trees.

Dependence of Man on Natural Resources: Metal and non-metals, minerals from earth, uses of non-metals.

Carbon and its Compounds: Simple compounds of carbon, petroleum products, plastics, detergents and soaps, oxygen and hydrogen and their uses, introductory account of synthetic fibres, rubber, introduction, structure, related properties and uses, hydrocarbons their elementary structure, isomerism, allotropes of carbon and their occurrence.

Extraction of Metals: Uses of metals and non-metals, metals and non-metals occurrence, general metallurgical operations for extraction of pure metal (extraction of iron, aluminum and copper), properties of some alloys (german, brass, bronze, gunmetal, solder, silver) uses at home and in industry, properties and uses, properties of metals.
