NALSAR - Test Pattern

Every year in the month of May the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is conducted for the admission to LL.B. and LL.M. programmes. However, Foreign Nationals are excused for appearing the test.

B.A. LL.B.

The test is of objective type and carries 200 marks. It is of Two hours duration. Every response bears positive mark. However, there is no negative marking. The test paper comprises of questions which are expected of 10+2 standard with the break up mentioned below.

  • General Knowledge: 50 marks
  • Legal Aptitude: 40 marks
  • English: 40 marks
  • Logical Reasoning: 50 marks
  • Mathematics: 20 marks

LL.M.

The entrance test for LL.M. will be held with the entrance test for B.A. LL.B. (Hons.). The paper comprises of four sections and each section carries 50 marks. The test is of objective type. The first section aims to assess the candidates’ competency in English Language. The candidates are required to obtain 25 marks out of 50 to get their paper further valued.

In the subsequent section the candidates are required to write short-notes on different topics based on law. In the third section, the candidates have to write a short-essay on the subject of Indian Constitutional Law and in the last section; candidates will be asked to write on the topic of Jurisprudence.

Foreign Nationals

NRI candidates/NRI sponsored candidates should write the Common Law Admission Test. These candidates are required to mention their category like NRI/NRI sponsored at the time of filling in the form. The admission will be strictly made only on the basis of merit.
