Film and Video Editing
Center for Research in Art of Film and Television (CRAFT) offers a course in Film and Video Editing. The course curriculum consists of complete information on editing for film and video.
An editor should possess sound knowledge of advanced technology used in editing. The responsibility of an editor is to put the film in the appropriate sequential order. An editor views the processed film and video with the production team to evaluate, analyze, choose scenes and decides which scenes require to be improved or shoot them again. The editor with the production personnel synchronizes the sound track and special effects wherever required.
An editor has to be creative while editing. The editing work not just involves using the editing software professionally but also sound knowledge from an artistic side. Students are given theory and practical exercises. With the help of these exercises, students develop their skills like sound editing, picture editing, conventions and techniques. The faculty uses short movie scenes or feature films where students are allowed to discuss on various aspects of editing including:
- Pace
- Mood
- Structure
- Rhythm
- Continuity
- Sequence
From the very first day of class, students learn the basics of editing such as digital and non-linear editing. The film school organizes workshops on editing. Students are taught the intricacies of different editing software. The workshop incorporates information on various editing software lie Edit, Final Cut Pro, Avid and Velocity. Students are taught how to capture images by using advanced image editing software like Inferno and Fire.
Once students completed initial stage of training, they are asked to work on a scene from documentary or full-length narrative. CRAFT has experienced and dedicated faculties who help students to understand technical and artistic aspects of editing. The film school organizes lectures on various elements of editing to help students understand the concept of editing. Editing is not only about cutting the scenes but also putting them together to create final project.
Skilled working professionals from the film industry with an FTII background conduct the workshops organized by CRAFT. The workshop consists of various exercises based on many film sequences taken from popular films. The guest faculty interacts with students and made them aware of challenges during the time of editing.
The workshops are organized with the intention of equipping students with various professional cutting techniques. Students are also taught finishing techniques for creating special effects and colour correction. The workshop comprises of various aspects of editing including:

Students are given an insight on how to read waveform monitor and vector-scope, filx colour balance, adjust contrast, tans code and output video to various formats.
