CLAT – Eligibility Criteria

The universities offer undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The eligibility criteria for these courses are given as follows.

Undergraduate Programmes (LLB)

The candidate must have passed Higher Secondary School/Intermediate Exam that is 10+2 or its equivalent with at least 50 % marks in aggregate. Candidate who is appearing for qualifying exam in the year of admission is also eligible to apply. The candidate should be 20 years of age in the year of admission.

Postgraduate Programmes (LLM)

The candidate must have completed LL.B Degree or its equivalent from a recognized university and he/she should have obtained at least 50 % marks in aggregate. Candidate who is in the final year of LL.B programme may also apply, however, their admission will be provisional until they submit result with necessary 50 % marks in aggregate.

CLAT – Exam Pattern

BA LLB Entrance Exam

The test is of objective type which takes 2 hours duration and bears 200 marks. There is no negative marking for wrong answer and the test details are given as follows.

  • General Knowledge: 50 marks
  • Legal Aptitude: 40 marks
  • English: 40 marks
  • Logical Reasoning: 50 marks
  • Mathematics: 20 marks

LLM Entrance Exam

The entrance exam for LLM is held with the entrance exam for B.A. LLB (Hons.). This exam is applicable for admission to the law universities except NLU Jodhpur. The candidates are required to apply separately for NLU Jodhpur. The paper comprises of four sections and each section bears 50 marks. The first section aims to assess candidate’s proficiency in English language. The candidates are required to obtain at least 25 marks out of 50 to get their paper further valued. In second section, the candidates will have to write short-notes on different topics of law. In section third, the candidates are needed to write a short-essay on any of the topics of Indian Constitutional Law. Subsequently in the section fourth the candidates will be asked to write a short-essay on any of the topics of Jurisprudence.

Foreign Nationals

NRI Candidates/ NRI Sponsored Candidates should mention their category in the application form. These candidates will get admission only on the basis of merit.
