Prof. Farhat Basir Khan
Mr. Farhat Basir Khan is an activist practitioner and a teacher. He is senior most faculty member of the prominent AJK Mass Communication Research Centre. Mr. Khan was the first to launch the photography programmes for NCERT and UGC to be taught at 10+2 as well as degree level. Mr. Khan looks forward to establishing institutes for mass communication. He also contributed to set up many institutes across India.
He is one of the pioneers of photography education in the country. He is closely involved with the industry and earned name and fame as an industrial and advertising photographer.. He worked with prominent advertising agencies and campaigns including:
- Leo Burnett
- Oberoi Maidens
- Delhi Police
He also contributed to various national and international projects. Mr. Farhat Basir Khan has been chosen to create 50 year commemorative Audio-Visual for World Heath Organization (WHO) and UNICEF. He is selected amid the photographers from across the globe. Most probably, Mr. Khan is the only photographer to hold this prestigious position.
Lately, he has completed a training programme for UNICEF delegates on Unspooling the Documentary process. The trainees who participated in the programme were delegates from renowned institutions such as MIT, Russian Film School and Harvard Business School. Mr. Khan represented AJK MCRC and presented paper for the Italian Embassy meeting on the topic 'New and Old Media - Conflicts & Discourses Within'. The paper received many critically acclamations as perceptive, holistic, incisive, etc.
Mr. Khan puts emphasis on introducing innovative and assimilative advanced technology. He believes that we should produce creative photographer. The aim of the photography course is to produce expert professionals who meet the international industry standard.
Mr. Khan headed the multimedia, photography, audio and visual section of the AJK Mass Communication Research Centre. He has been the faculty in-charge for more than two decades. Today, he holds position as a placement officer in the university. He is the person who introduced first M.A. in Photography in India that is approved by the University Grant Commission. The post graduation in photography has come into existence only because of his strenuous efforts.
Mr. Khan is the Founder Director of the Academy for Photographic Excellence - a Jindal Photo Initiative. It is the first academy, which is the union of professional, academic and corporate. Mr. Khan poured all his efforts into producing expert professionals and aspirant photographers.
Mr. Khan contributes regularly to several print, electronic and web media on the recent development in New Media Platforms and the path that media and communication offer. Mr. Khan is widely respected for his contribution to the photography. He is invited as guest faculty by many prominent institutions in the country.
