Courses/Training


Courses in Psychology:

  1. After Class XII (any subject, humanities preferred), graduation in Ancient, Medieval and Modern Indian History
  2. Graduation in history, followed by post graduation in archaeology, students of classical languages like Persian, Sanskrit or Pali scripts or of Islamic history are trained and employed with Archaeological departments
  3. Postgraduates in history (ancient, modern or medieval), followed by diploma in archival study are recruited through tests conducted by the UPSC for jobs in the National Archives. The National Archives at Delhi houses all historical data, which has relevance to Indian culture and its past. The regional offices are at Bhopal and Jaipur.

Jobs in Psychology

  1. Research psychologists investigate the physical, cognitive, emotional or social aspects of human behaviour.
  2. Applied Psychologists are involved in counselling, training programs, market research, mental health services in hospitals, clinics, or private settings.
  3. Clinical psychologists concern themselves with mental health programmes ranging from normal psychological crisis to extreme conditions. They work in psychiatric hospitals and clinics, with patients in the community and even in old people's homes, children's homes and remand centres.
  4. Counselling psychologists help people on how to deal with problems of every day living - personal, social, educational or vocational.
  5. Developmental psychologists study the patterns and causes of behavioural change from infancy to adulthood.
  6. Educational psychologists design, develop and evaluate educational programs. They deal with learning, behaviour and emotional problems as well as with handicapped children.
  7. Experimental psychologists conduct experimental research on various aspects of human behaviour.
  8. Industrial, organisational and marketing psychologists apply psychological principles to personnel administration, management and marketing problems.

Prospects:

  • The Archaeological Survey of India with its headquarters in Delhi has archaeological departments in all the states of India. It has specialised branches dealing with temples, epigraphs etc.
  • Opportunities for employment are offered by the Historical Division of the Ministry of External Affairs for handling jobs in their Cultural Affairs Division. These are research positions for Second Class postgraduates in History/Pol. Science/Modern History with knowledge of foreign language. Students with some study in the area of International Relations get preference.
